Casa San Agustin
Refined yet relaxed, its trio of colonial era white-washed buildings exudes the warmth of a magnificently appointed private residence with original frescoes in the library and centuries-old wood-beamed ceilings in the guest rooms.
Situated on a bay in the Caribbean Sea, Cartagena de Indias was built between the 14th and 19th centuries and has the most extensive fortifications in South America. The city’s well-preserved 11-kilometer wall, encompassing the Old Town, was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 and the region’s religious history is seen and felt in the spectacularly beautiful cathedrals and more modest temples, chapels and churches. The hotel is just 10 minutes from Cartagena’s international airport.
Guests are welcomed into 30 decadent guest rooms and spacious suites, each awash in authentic Colombian style, from the natural fabrics and rich dark woods to the specially commissioned local artwork and ironwork beds. Large picture windows and breezy balconies allow natural light to brighten each space and bring the beauty of nature indoors. Many rooms and suites can be configured into two- or three-bedroom suites, and all rooms and suites feature modern amenities including LCD TV, Wi-Fi, AC, luxurious Frette linens and citrus-scented Ortigia bath amenities.
Radiating the vibrant energy of Cartagena, Alma Restaurant is the showcase and centerpiece of luxurious Casa San Agustin, and a gathering spot for locals and guests alike. Alma offers contemporary Latin cuisine from fresh seafood in a Colombian-style bouillabaisse to Latin-infused slow-cooked lamb. Alma is under the direction of Executive Chef Heberto Eljach, who draws on his experiences in Australasia, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia to create menus of striking originality. Sophisticated with an air of rustic refinement, Alma offers alfresco dining in the enchanting courtyard or indoors amid Colombian-crafted fixtures and furnishings.
