Sher Bagh

India’s Ranthambhore National Park is one of the finest places in the world to see wild tigers and Sher Bagh, a Relais & Chateaux camp, is most charming and authentic place to stay in Ranthambhore. Neighboring the tiger reserve, the camps twelve hand-stitched canvas tents reflect the style of the 1920’s and arouse nostalgic evocations of life on safari during the heyday of the Raj.

The Singh family have had a connection with Ranthambhore and the conservation of tigers and the forest since 1974 - Jaisal & Anjali invite guests to their family home, built from the heart out of sheer passion for the nature and wildlife that surrounds it.

The site of the camp was once barren land, and today, with much care and meticulous attention over the years, it is a healthy forest with thousands of trees, grasses and other indigenous flora. Sher Bagh is surrounded on three sides by the border of Ranthambhore National Park. A great diversity of wildlife thrives across Ranthambhore's spectacular landscapes and ecosystem including leopard and bear as well as a large number of prey species. Ornithologists flock to the area for the sheer variety of birdlife that resides within or migrates to Ranthambhore.

Travel options include air, train, helicopter and car. Guests can fly to Jaipur and drive four hours to camp, or charter a private plane to land eight miles away, or a convenient heli-pad is just two miles away. There is a train station is just 20 minutes from camp.

Twelve spectacular tents are available, each with an en suite bathroom and a private veranda – the Luxury and Royal suites offer a Jacuzzi or private swimming pool. The camp is furnished in Edwardian, campaign style furniture, which famously decked the future King Edward VIIIth’s celebrated tour of India’s wild heartlands in 1921.

Each and every Relais & Châteaux property is unique in the world, all around the world and the people, places, cuisine and culture reflect that holistically. The cuisine combines sumptuous western lunches with traditional Indian dinners cooked over clay ovens. The nourishing home-grown ingredients are handpicked from the Organic Herb and Vegetable Garden. Most dining is al fresco, where guests delight in different outdoor dining experiences surrounded by acres of wild grasses and under the dome of a starlit sky.

The Sher Bagh Jungle Spa lies under the canopy of an ancient Peepal tree (Religiosa indica) providing it seclusion and privacy amidst the sonorous melody of birdsong. Skilled therapists offer a variety of therapies ranging from a full body massage to long practice reflexology treatments. Therapists have been professionally trained by some of the best known masters and will be happy to suggest the right treatment to suit guests’ particular preference. After a treatment or a game drive, relax by the Sher Bagh pool.

The Sher Bagh team includes some of Ranthambhore’s most experienced, passionate and well known drivers and trackers with an accumulated knowledge of over a hundred years between them. A short 20 minute drive through the main park road accesses the fort of Ranthambhore, reached through an ambling, gentle climb and offers stunning views of the Park’s lake areas. The views over Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve from the battlements are breath taking. A Sher Bagh guide will escort guests through the Fort narrating its rich past.
