The Strand Cruise

The Strand Cruise offers all the features passengers and the travel industry would expect from a Strand product, from flawless service and gourmet a la carte cuisine, to exclusive access to Myanmar’s cultural landmarks and signature elements on board celebrating “the golden age” of the Strand as a meeting place for explorers and raconteurs. All these elements come together to create the ultimate luxury river cruiser on the Ayeyarwady.

The Strand Cruise is a genuine luxury cruise experience on the Ayeyarwady with an itinerary curated to allow more time for relaxation on board. The ship moves regularly in order to position as close to landmarks as possible, allowing more time for tours and cruising on the river, while reducing the necessity to travel by road transportation. The Strand’s knowledge of Myanmar is unsurpassed which translates to exclusive and authentic experiences onshore, exploring less frequently visited villages and landmarks for a more authentic and genuine interaction with local communities.

The RV Strand Ayeyarwady is the newest ship on the river, with construction completed in Yangon in autumn 2015. The Strand Cruise has 27 en-suite cabins accommodating 54 passengers. Design reflects the Strand Hotel’s timeless elegance and heritage, enhanced with the latest technology such as individually controlled air conditioning, a temperature controlled wine cellar and WI-FI from satellite communication throughout the ship. Each of the 27 suites includes butler and concierge service.

The pool has been created with a central channel at a depth of 1.2m for swimming, and ample space for sun loungers at its edge. A wellness and beauty salon has a manicure and pedicure bar, as well as two therapy rooms, a reflexology station to soothe and revitalize body and mind, and a gym equipped with cardiovascular equipment and free weights. The Sun Deck is the heart and social hub of the ship, where passengers can gather to relax, interact and observe life on the passing riverbanks. As well as the pool, the Sun Deck is home to the bar and intimate wine tasting area, a library stocked with history books and games, and a large and airy alfresco lounge where guests can relax with afternoon tea or enjoy a performance arranged by the crew. For passengers with enquiring minds, a schedule of activities, lectures and historical demonstrations on the country’s many traditions and culture.

Gourmet cuisine and fine wines are part of the DNA of the Strand and are offered throughout the cruise experience. The Strand offers the most extensive and diverse wine list on the river and sommeliers are on hand to arrange wine tastings. This diversity extends through every dining experience, from buffets on the sundeck, international as well as traditional Burmese cuisine, to fine dining in the restaurant and a private farewell dinner.

Itineraries contain exclusive opportunities to interact sensitively with local communities on an exclusive basis. The ship will moor next to the Gawdawpalin community village in Old Bagan and the Yangon monastery school for young pupils in Sagaing, and hosts breakfast in exclusive locations, such as the lovely shaded garden of the oldest lacquer ware house in Bagan and uniquely in a private area overlooking the iconic U-bein Bridge.
